The primary purpose of this lending program is to offer a no-cost option for AICP members to qualify for Certification Maintenance (CM) Program credits, but these CDs can be borrowed by any Chapter member. APA California provides a variety of professional development services. The California Chapter provides varied and unique educational and networking opportunities for members through conferences and AICP Exam preparation programs. The annual California Chapter Conference offers opportunities to stay current in the planning field and to network with the leaders in the planning profession. APA California also nominates planners to become members of the AICP College of Fellows. 2010 Awards Program The APA California Awards Program encourages quality in planning and increases the public’s awareness of the planning profession by recognizing outstanding achievement in the planning field. The program honors innovative plans and projects, distinguished APA members, lay contributors to planning and achievements of local APA California Sections. APA California Planning Awards are presented annually at the APA California Conference in two categories: Awards of Excellence and Awards of Merit. Additionally, Scholastic Awards are given to students by the California Planning Foundation, a nonprofit, tax-deductible arm of APA California, and Historic Planning Landmark Awards are given to historical projects. Congratulations to our new President-Elect, Kevin Keller, AICP, and to our new Vice President for Administration, Virginia Viado, they will both be great additions to our already amazing Chapter Board. I would also like to congratulate Lance Schulte, AICP, for his election to the National AICP Commission as Region VI Commissioner and Bill Anderson, FAICP, for his election to the National APA Board of Directors as Region VI Representative.
